Community Watershed Education Program
The RCD develops educational materials and coordinates workshops and presentations on a variety of watershed-related topics for various segments of the Napa County community, including public service clubs, business associations, urban and rural residents, local interest groups, schools and businesses. If you belong to a group that would like to learn more about watershed ecology and stewardship, give us a call and we can arrange for one of our resource professionals to come speak to your group. Presentations are free and can be scheduled during week days and evenings and can vary in length from about 20 minutes to an hour. To find out more contact: Jenny McIlvaine, Napa County RCD Stewardship Educator at (707) 252-4188 or jenny@naparcd.org

Napa River Watershed Presentation
One of RCD's services includes presentations about the Napa River Watershed to local schools, given by Education Coordinator, Michael Champion.
This interactive Napa River Watershed presentation explores the balance between human needs within the watershed, and the needs of fish and wildlife. Among the discussed topics are endangered species living in Napa County and what we can do to help protect them from extinction. Students also learn about the relationship between surface and groundwater, and how water pollution can affect both sources of water. Using detailed maps of Napa County, students will understand where their drinking water comes from, and the many impacts that can affect its quality, such as different types of garbage.
The Napa River Watershed presentation is geared towards elementary school students and can be tailored for high school students.
To schedule a presentation for your class, please contact Michael Champion at the Napa RCD via e-mail or by phone at 707-252-4188.
Environmental Education Guide 2001/2002
In June of 2001, the Napa County RCD participated in the formation of the Environmental Education Coalition of Napa County. The Coalition is made up of various agencies, non-profits, and businesses that provide environmental education to Napa County students.
Together, the Coalition published the "Environmental Education Guide 2001-2000". The guide was designed to connect teachers with the numerous exciting environmental education opportunities available in Napa County. Of the 12 agencies represented in the guide, each has matched state curriculum standards and offers other relevant contact information. In September of 2002, the Environmental Education Guide was updated with nine new Napa County organizations.
This guide will soon be available online. A hard copy is available for free at the Napa RCD office. Please contact Education Coordinator Michael Champion via e-mail or by phone at 707-252-4188 to receive your copy. Supplies are limited.
