Map of Cleanup Sites 2007

Southern Crossing Bridge

site map

Site Captain: Penny Proteau, Sierra Club
This site is located underneath the George F. Butler Bridge (a.k.a the Southern Crossing Bridge). This is where the Napa River approaches the marshes and sloughs before entering San Pablo Bay. In 2006, 12 volunteers removed 270 pounds of trash and 48 pounds of recyclables along two miles of the Napa River at this site. It’s a good site for people who like to fish and enjoy viewing wildlife. Volunteers will meet at the chain link fence at the end of Soscol Ferry Road. Kid friendly.

Kennedy Park

site map

Site Captain: Napa Valley College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
This site can be found at the end of Streblow Dr by following signs to Kennedy Park, just past Napa Valley College. Each year the Napa Valley College, through its Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, cleans up the Park and boat launch areas along the Napa River. In 2006, this site had the largest number of volunteers, with 119 volunteers removing 1,050 pounds of trash and 72 pounds of recyclables along approximately one mile of the Napa River. This is an excellent site for students who attend the college, families who use Kennedy Park, and anyone interested in seeing how the Flood Control Project is changing the look of the River. Kid friendly.

Riverside Drive in Napa

site map

Site Captain: Napa Valley Yacht Club
This site is located on Riverside Drive which runs along the Napa River South of the Hatt Buidling in Napa. Last year 20 volunteers collected 1,650 pounds of trash and 200 pounds of recyclables along this one mile stretch of the Napa River. This year the Napa Valley Yacht Club will lead the effort to clean up this downtown stretch of the Napa River’s shoreline. Volunteers will meet on Riverside Dr. at the end of Elm St., located south of the Napa City-County Library and the Hatt Building in Napa.

South Wetland Opportunity Area

site map

Site Captain: Todd Adams, Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District
This site, located at the extreme southern end of Jefferson Street in Napa, is normally off limits to the public. Park on Jefferson St. and go through the chain link fence gate and walk toward the Napa River. This is a good site for volunteers who enjoy bird watching, and for those who would like to see the progress that the Flood Control Project has made. Hundreds of acres of newly restored wetlands await the volunteers at this site. In 2006, 35 volunteers helped remove 400 pounds of trash and 125 pounds of recyclables from the wetlands and along approximately 2 miles of the Napa River

Napa River Ecological Preserve

site map

Site Captain: John Kara, Napa County Department of Environmental Management
Volunteers will help clean up the Napa River in this 73 acre Preserve owned by the California Department of Fish and Game. Every year, there are never enough volunteers to collect all the trash and debris that visitors leave behind. In 2006, 35 vounteers removed 600 pounds of trash and 360 pounds of recyclables. The Preserve is located on Yountville Cross Road between the Town of Yountville and the Silverado Trail.

Napa Creek

site map

Site Captain: In Harm’s Way
Volunteers will help cleanup Napa Creek alongside members of In Harm’s Way, a recently formed group made up of residents that live along the creek. The site’s downtown location guarantees there will be a lot of trash and debris to pick up. Volunteers will meet behind the Firefighter’s Museum located on the corner of Main and Pearl Streets in downtown Napa.

Salvador Creek

site map

Site Captain: Vintage High School
Volunteers will join Steve Konakis, a business teacher at Vintage High School, in a cleanup of Salvador Creek. In 2006, 73 volunteers removed 200 pounds of trash and 100 pounds of recyclables from the creek. This is a great site for families. Meet at the Vintage High School cafeteria at the east end of Trower Avenue in Napa. Kid friendly.

Hopper Creek

site map

Site Captains: Karin Morrisey and Chip Bouril
Join two long-time Yountville residents at a new site this year to cleanup Hopper Creek as it flows through Yountville. Meet at the Yountville Town Hall at 6550 Yount Street in Yountville.

Flood Project-Floodplain Terraces

site map

Site Captain: Friends of the Napa River
Join Friends of the Napa River at a new site this year to cleanup the floodplain terraces along the Flood Project from Third Street in Napa to Kennedy Park. Volunteers will meet at the end of Hartle Ct. (located off Gasser Dr. between Imola Ave. and Soscol Ave). This site will require lots of walking along the river floodplain (one-two miles)!

Oxbow Preserve

site map

Site Captain: Chad Edwards, NCRCD
Join the Napa RCD at a new site this year to cleanup one of the City of Napa’s newest parks, scheduled for restoration and improvements this fall. For more information on the meeting location, call (707) 252 – 4188 x 111.

Napa River Trail

site map

Site Captain: David J. Ybarra Restoration
Join local volunteer David Ybarra at a new site this year to cleanup the Napa River Trail. Walking along the Napa River Trail gives a view that even few Napa residents have seen. You'll see ducks and other wildfowl and probably a fisherman or two angling for striped bass, trout, or other fish. It's a very peaceful area, protected from traffic and other sounds of the city. For more information on the meeting location, call (707) 252 – 4188 x 111.
