Garnett Creek Stewardship
The Garnett Creek watershed is one of the most dramatic in the Napa Valley. Its headwaters are just below the spectacular rock outcroppings known as the Palisades just northeast of Calistoga on the flanks of Mt. St. Helena. The rocky source of the creek can be guessed-at by the large free stone cobble in the creek, which can be observed where it crosses under the Highway 29 bridge.
The Garnett Creek Stewardship was formed in January 1999 and met regularly though July 1999 with assistance from the RCD. The group came together to cooperatively learn about, discuss, and address concerns in the watershed, such as: stream geomorphology (how the stream works), a proposed widening project for Hwy 29, the laws of water rights, and the history of steelhead fish populations.
