Rutherford Dust Restoration Team
In 2002, the Rutherford Dust Society Board of Directors voted unanimously to empower a subcommittee, the Rutherford Dust Restoration Team (RDRT or "our dirt"), to initiate a plan to manage and restore the Napa river. The sub-committee is co-chaired by two Rutherford Dust Society board members: John Williams, president of Frog's Leap Winery, and Davie Pina, owner of Pina Vineyard Management, LLC.
RDRT (or "our dirt") seeks to:
The goal of RDRT is to manage and restore the four-mile stretch of the Napa River, and its watershed, which flows through the Rutherford American Viticultural Area (AVA) between Zinfandel Lane Bridge and Oakville Cross Road.
- understand the underlying causes of the instable river system
- stabilize river banks and address bank erosion, loss of habitat and sediment issues, which are symptoms of the wider watershed system instability
- reduce the impacts of flooding
- protect and enhance fish and wildlife habitat
- reduce Pierce's Disease pressure on vineyards
- provide ongoing education about the river and its watershed
