Sulphur Creek Watershed Taskforce

The Sulphur Creek Watershed Task Force was formed by a group of concerned stakeholders in 1996 with a mission to preserve and maintain Sulphur Creek watershed in a natural and beautiful state and to promote both agricultural as well as private recreational usage of the watershed. Over the past several years, the group constructed a set of resource questions, helped to instigate a multi-disciplinary science project to research watershed conditions (link: http://www.napawatersheds.org/Content/10032/Sulphur_Creek_Watershed.html), and developed a management plan to help guide future protection and enhancement of the watershed.

Several watershed restoration projects have been completed in the Sulphur Creek watershed as a result of the dedicated efforts of the stewardship and it’s individual members. Specific projects include:

  • Establishing pool/riffle habitat with the use of rock weirs to enhance fisheries habitat;
  • Installing a fish ladder at a bridge that presented a fish migration obstical;
  • Implementing a channel stabilization, fish passage, and a revegetation project;
  • Removing several fish migration barriers; and
  • Reconstructing and repairing rural roads to reduce sediment input to the watershed.
